Sermon Introduction: The Sermon on the Mount opens on a high note of blessedness. The most common understanding of blessedness to a Jew at the time of Christ was based on external performance in keeping the law. From the opening lines, Jesus turns to the heart, not to performance. In today’s sermon, we open up the heart of God and learn how to live a blessed life that is rewarding, free of hypocrisy and pleasing to God.
